A Brief Biography

Joseph Lawrence

Mr. Lawrence became interested in art in grade school.  By his senior year in high school, he was taking two hours of classes a day.  Mr. Lawrence attended Hamline University in St. Paul.  After two years, he transferred to The San Francisco Art Institute.  Because of the cost of living in San Francisco, he returned to his hometown of Minneapolis, and completed his B.F.A. degree at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1975.

In 1983, Mr. Lawrence decided to seek better opportunities in New York, and he relocated there in 1983.  He enrolled in continuing education courses at the Art Students League and The School of Visual Arts.  Mr. Lawrence’s recent exhibitions include “Second Chances” at Hudson Guild Gallery and the Ubique Gallery.  Mr. Lawrence has also contributed work to several fundraising events in support of AIDS research and the environment.

Please be sure to read the Artistic Statement page on this site.  This should give you some insights about my work and try to explain my ideas..
