AN INTRODUCTION AND BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Joseph Lawrence

I grew up in Minneapolis in a neighborhood close to Minnesota’s most important museums: The Walker Art Center and The Minneapolis Institute of Art. My parents took me to museums frequently, and they helped influence me to become an artist.

After high school, I enrolled at Hamline University to acquire more exposure to the liberal arts and transferred to The San Francisco Art Institute.  Living expenses in San Francisco were higher than I expected, so I completed my BFA degree at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

A few years after getting my degree I moved to New York.  I eventually found a permanent address and found the studio space where I have done my artwork for over thirty years.
